After a couple of days exploring London; seeing the highlights, enjoying pub lunches and watching demonstrations we left our house in Hayes (West London) and started north. Thankfully the traffic along the dreaded M25 wasn’t too bad as we circled around North London and headed towards Cambridge. After our first (of many) pub lunch in Buckden, we made our first birding stop at Grafham Water, England’s third largest reservoir. The water was carpeted with Eurasian Coots, Tufted Duck and Pochard, along with Graylag Geese and a large number of gulls.

The third “Mondays with Mike” walk at Jackson Park on 9/22 was one for the record books.  Despite a forecast of limited migration the night before, we found an outstanding 18 warbler species among 55 total species.  And that included an exceptional list of rarities

Lake Julian Walk: Aug. 30, 2025

Hello Fellow Birders!

We had a great time at Lake Julian yesterday, although the Pontoon boat rides have been temporarily suspended. We simply extended our time within the park and enjoyed the more common birds. There were not a lot of fall migrants around, although at this time of year this changes from day to day! Our best bird was the Osprey that we saw from across the lake near the Osprey nest location. Several Brown-headed Nuthatches also gave us a show. Surprisingly, the local Bald Eagle was not to be seen. Maybe he's moved on for the season.
