The eastern counties of England are well known for their rural beauty, picturesque fishing towns and excellent seafood. They are also home to one of the richest bird populations in Britain, which is well represented within the bird and wildlife reserves found throughout the region. We will start our exploration in the rural county of Suffolk, where we will use the small market town of Halesworth, Suffolk as our base. Whilst in Suffolk, we will visit the flagship of English bird reserves, Minsmere. This coastal reserve has populations of Pied Avocet and European Marsh Harrier, both rare in England. From here we will travel north through the marshes and woodlands of Cambridgeshire to Ely, with its historic cathedral, and then on to Yorkshire to visit the moors and impressive seabird cliffs, with thousands of nesting birds including Razorbill, Atlantic Puffin, & Northern Gannet. We then return to Suffolk via several of the excellent reserves in North Norfolk. As we travel through the English countryside, we will take several short walks through the countryside, and also not forget the rich culture of the village pub, as each lunchtime will see us partaking of the local brew in a different tavern. Join Ventures owner and British ex-patriot, Simon Thompson, who will help you experience a small part of England’s birds, countryside, and history, off the beaten path.
