An easy morning watching a variety of wintering species. We recommend good hiking boots.

The Bynum Bridge area is arguably one of the best birding locations in the Piedmont, and is located in the small town of Bynum. Habitats are varied and include riparian woodland, meadows and an old industrial mill site, all of which provide several excellent places to birdwatch. Built in 1922, the old bridge over the Haw River spans over 800 ft, and affords eye-level views of birds in the trees and is the perfect place to look for both migrants and winter visitors along the river.

On this walk we hope to see field sparrow, red-headed and pileated woodpeckers, cedar waxwing, yellow-bellied sapsucker, hooded merganser, brown-headed nuthatch, hermit thrush, winter wren, fox sparrow, both kinglets, yellow-rumped warbler, barred owl and hopefully the local belted kingfishers, bald eagles and red-tailed hawks. Finishing time for the walk is 1PM.
