Paul Laurent

Paul Laurent has always loved birds and nature, and has been working as a naturalist and tour guide since 2010 when he graduated from Gettysburg College with a degree in history. Realizing that he didn't want to be a history teacher, he began leading kayak tours in the swamps and salt marshes of the South Carolina Low Country, where he specialized in identifying the many species of shorebirds that frequented Murrells Inlet, and in jumping out of his kayak to catch snakes.

He began leading birding tours to Costa Rica in the off season in 2016. After his fifth 'thousand year flood' in South Carolina, Paul got sick of hurricanes and moved to higher ground in Banner Elk, NC. When he isn't leading Ventures Tours he works as the Naturalist for Valle Crucis Community Park and is on the board of the High Country Audubon Society and the Carolina Bird Club.
